Preschool Room #1

Summer is in full swing but unfortunately it is already half over. We hope everyone is enjoying the HOT weather. We have heard about lots of swimming in pools and swims at the beach.

The children have been interested in all things summer; camping, vacations, swimming, fishing and the beach, but especially ice cream. We opened an ice cream shop in our dramatic play centre, where the children were able to make cones, and milkshakes and use the cash register to pay for them. When engaging in these activities we are aiding in the development of pre-math skills as well as sharing and cooperation.

We have recently started talking about the ocean and ocean animals. We are also using our craft time to make things to decorate our walls. If you notice less artwork coming home, look at our walls and admire your child’s crafts.

If your family is planning more vacation or time off, please be sure to let staff know so we can plan accordingly. Also note that Story Book will be closed on Monday, August 4th for the Civic Holiday and Monday, September 1st for Labour Day.

Preschool Room #2

Summer is in full swing, and we are having a wonderful time. The weather has been cooperating, and we have been able to continue our summer activities outside.  The children have been enjoying sidewalk chalk, bubbles and water play to name a few. Stay tuned for more exciting days! We are planning on having a “water day”, “movie day” and a “carnival day” this month.

The children have been loving our camp site in our dramatic play centre. Many of them have been incorporating their own camping experiences that they had with their families into their play. Based on these observations, we are going to be adding a beach, shells, and animals the children have seen camping.

In the next couple of weeks, we will be talking about rhyming words based on the children requesting songs such as “Down by the Bay” as well as making up their own games with word play. We will also be reading books like Dr. Seuss to help the children become more familiar with words that sound the same.

For some of our older children, this will be their last month before moving on to “Big School”. We wish them the best in Kindergarten… we will miss them all!

“You’re off to great places, today is your day. Your mountain is waiting, so get on your way.” – Dr. Seuss.
