Preschool Room #1 News

November is here and Autumn is in full swing! The children have been noticing signs of fall, like the cooler temperatures, colourful leaves, and geese flying south. The children often collect fallen leaves and use them to make pretend food outside. We transferred that interest indoors by adding “pretend food” to our dramatic play centre. The children love to make food and serve the meals to their friends!

With the cooler fall weather creeping up, it is a great time to update your child’s school clothes with pants and long-sleeved shirts. Warm jackets, hats and mittens would also be appreciated at this time. Please be sure to label all clothing so missing items can easily be returned.

Reminder that Remembrance Day is November 11th, and Story Book will remain open on the Holiday. However, please let us know if this affects your child’s regular scheduled days.

Preschool Room #2 News

During the month of October our interest in fall continued to blossom, beginning with the children discovering the leaves changing on the trees. This sparked the children’s curiosity on why this occurs, and together we explored the different characteristics of a leaf. During this time, raking leaves and collecting them into a wheelbarrow became a popular outdoor activity.

Earlier in the month, the children were excited to share what their families were going to eat for thanksgiving and hear what others were going to eat as well. This sparked an interest in turkeys. We also talked about how the children would save the turkeys like the children in the book “The night before Thanksgiving.”

The children have also been sharing their experiences of going to the pumpkin patch with their families. To expand on this interest, we turned our dramatic play area into a pumpkin patch. Here the children can pick pumpkins, go on hayrides and bake different pumpkin desserts.

As we move into the colder months, please check your little one’s spare clothing to ensure it is weather appropriate. As well we kindly ask you to provide labelled hats, mittens, boots, and coats. If your child cannot yet manage finger gloves independently, please send mittens instead, as getting twenty-four children ready for outdoor play can be quite time consuming. A gentle reminder: for safety reasons we ask only adults to open the door handles and gates outside.

We would also like to thank the families that came to our Open House; we loved seeing all the little ones in their costumes!
