Toddler Room #1

We got our first taste of winter weather, snow and cold. We were glad to have snow pants and boots, so we were able to play outside. Please continue to send winter gear, we are outside for an hour and it’s more fun when we are warm. To help us keep track of your child’s belongings, please label the items.

This month will include discussions about winter, the holidays and different traditions that are celebrated and of course SANTA. We are already hearing stories about parades and seeing Santa. We will wait and see if Tinsel the elf makes an appearance. This will bring some excitement each day trying to find where she has chosen to hide.

We are having a toy/canned good drive for local charities. If you choose to participate, please have donations in by December 15th. Boxes for these items can be found at the front entrance if you choose to participate.

Story Book ELC will be closed December 24th – January 2nd. We will re-open on Tuesday January 3rd.  Please let staff know of any changes to your child’s schedule due to the holding season.

We hope you and your families have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Toddler Room #2

Happy Holidays from Toddler #2! We are so excited December is here. We love this season and all the fun festive activities that come with it. Our Christmas tree will go up soon and we can’t wait to make all the ornaments and decorate the classroom with all our artwork. Some friends have already begun singing “Jingle Bells” and talking about Santa.

During the month of November, we continued to form meaningful friendships, focus on colours and learned about Remembrance Day. The toddlers have formed such great friendships and have started to do random acts of kindness for one another. They have shown how kind they can be by giving hugs when a friend is sad, handing each-other their coats and boots while getting dressed for outside, inviting others to join in their play and sharing their toys and more. To support this interest, we created a friendship banner and continued to discuss manners and how to be a good friend during circle. Colours has also become a popular interest as we are starting to form our own favourite colours and beginning to learn to name them. We created rainbows, parrots, chameleons, and other colourful things and played matching games during large group to help learn our colours more.

Thank you for labeling your child’s winter coats, hats, gloves, and boots. We will continue to go outside during the winter months to enjoy the snow and hopefully get to build some snowmen! We are also continuing to work on self-help skills and encouraging them to dress themselves at home as well. We have been able to learn the flipping the coat trick very well! (We would be happy to show if you haven’t seen this before!)

We are looking forward to all the holiday themed large groups, art, and sensory experiences and plenty more the month of December will bring. We wish you all the best in the New Year!
