Preschool Room #3 News

We are in the final few months before kindergarten! We have been continuing to work on kindergarten readiness skills for the exciting transition to “big school.” A kindergarten readiness sheet will be sent out to each child’s family. It covers some of the main topics that children beginning kindergarten should be able to accomplish. These are skills that we have been working on throughout the year and topics you can cover at home as well. This can be completed at your leisure to help assess what can be worked on to be ready for September. This does not need to be brought back, just a tool to help ease the transition for the fall.

Last month the preschoolers had a blast (pun intended) learning all about space! The preschoolers learned about the different planets, rocket ships, astronauts and more.  Most importantly we focused on many ways we can help planet Earth and keep her healthy. The children enjoyed building rocket ships with glow in the dark Legos, taking turns in the tent to blast off into space, placing astronauts and aliens in the rocket ship doll house, learning about gravity with fans, and more.

During the month of May, the dramatic play centre will be changed into a doctor/dentist office. Recently many friends have had trips getting check ups, teeth cleaning, and more. This has become a popular topic of discussion. They love to care for their dolls and each other during free play. To help foster this interest different tools and other items will be brought in to see their imaginations flourish.

Now that spring has arrived, we will start applying sunscreen. Story Book will supply the sunscreen; we have an unscented paba-free hypo allergenic SPF 50 broad spectrum UVA/UVB sunscreen. If you have chosen to use your own  sunblock, we ask that you apply it at home before arriving in the morning and if you would like it reapplied in the afternoon, please supply us with some.

With the warmer weather beginning, please make sure your child’s spare clothes in their cubbies coincides with the season. Gentle reminder that we will be closed May 19th for Victoria Day. Happy Mother’s Day this month to all the important women in our lives!

Reminder: Re-registration forms are due back Friday, May 30th.
