Spooky season is finally upon us! The children have been eagerly awaiting Halloween. We started discussing what we were going to dress up as all the way back in July. We look forward to seeing their costumes at our annual Halloween Open House on Monday, October 27th from 6-7pm. Even if you can’t make it feel free to send us a photo of them in their costume over the Remind app!
We ask that on Halloween (Friday October 31st), you could help us celebrate by wearing orange and black. We please ask you to keep the costumes at home, we would hate anyone to be frightened by them or for them to potentially get lost or ruined. If you are planning on sending in Halloween treats, we just ask that they are nut-free.
In September, we learned about community helpers. This was driven by the children’s interest in what ‘red’ and ‘green’ meant when using our forehead thermometers. We created a Doctor/Vet’s office in our dramatic play centre, and the children loved pretending to take care of each other and the stuffed animals. They especially loved taking each other’s temperatures and declaring them either ‘red’ or ‘green.’
We also discussed the seasons changing from summer to fall and what new opportunities they would bring. Lots of our friends shared that they went apple picking with their families, and during circle time we learnt the proper way to pick an apple. With October approaching, we discussed the opening of pumpkin patches, and we’re eagerly awaiting our classroom pumpkin that we will carve together.
We are planning on having a pyjama/Halloween movie day sometime this month, so please watch out for an announcement about that!
Reminder: Story Book E.L.C. will be closed Monday, October 13th for Thanksgiving, we hope you have a great holiday!
