Preschool Room #1 News

Happy Spring everyone. We have had a few nice days mixed in with a few colder days. It has been nice to not have to dress in all our winter gear some days. There are still some colder days that we will need our snow pants and hats and mittens so please continue to send them for a little longer. The teachers will use their discretion as to whether we need to wear them or not.

The children have been really interested in familiar stories like the 3 Little Pigs, Goldilocks and the 3 Bears and the 3 Billy Goats Gruff and Little Red Riding Hood. They like to act out the stories both inside and out. We have the perfect little bridge outside, and a house made of ‘sticks’. Many of the children can recite the stories. Their favourite characters are the wolf, the troll, and the Papa Bear. They have learned so many concepts from these stories such as numbers, manners, work hard and then play, determination, seriation, and sizes.

We participated in Hats on for Health Care last month and for a donation the children were able to wear a hat for the day. We were able to raise $230.00 to support Windsor Regional Hospital’s Mental Health program. Some enjoyed it so much that they tried to wear their hats the next day as well.

April will bring a lot of talk about the Easter Bunny and Spring and all the changes that the season brings.

Please be advised that Story Book ELC will be closed on Good Friday, April 15th, and Easter Monday, April 18th. We hope you have a HOPPY Easter.

Preschool Room #2 News

The month of March was full of fun and exciting activities. The children’s main interests involved transportation, zoo animals, and the celebration of St. Patrick’s Day!

During large group activities the children read books and learned about different modes of transportation. They enjoyed sorting out different vehicles that belong in the air, water, and on land. At large group the children participated in a daily question asking if they have been on a train, airplane, etc. This activity brought on many wonderful discussions and allowed the children to share their experiences with their peers. The construction truck sensory bin was a big hit in our classroom. Letters of the alphabet were added into the bin. The children practiced letter recognition by scooping up the letters with their trucks and matching them to the alphabet. We also added a transportation centre into our room that included different tracks and vehicles.

We jumped into the Zoo animal theme after noticing the children pretending to be zoo animals outside. We also noticed the children using our new blocks to build a zoo for their animals. We added more animals and blocks to our block centre for the children to create with. This is now an area in our classroom where the children can work together to create and use their imaginations while offering valuable play and learning experiences.

As we head into the month of April the children are very interested in pirates. We have many exciting activities planned such as a classroom treasure hunt, a fun pirate sensory bin, and a map making craft! The children are also starting to notice the change in the weather. We will be discussing the signs of Spring and we look forward to getting outside to explore!

Reminder: Story Book ELC will be closed April 15th for Good Friday and April 18th for Easter Monday! Have a Happy Easter!
