Preschool Room #1 News

As summer comes to an end, we hope that everyone had a fantastic season and enjoyed their vacations. We had a blast talking and experiencing summer during our small groups, outside time and our circle times.

During the month of August, the children have been interested in learning colours, recognizing their own names, and learning about animals. The children also started finding an interest in the ABC’s saying, “m is for mommy” and “d is for daddy” etc. We will build more on this interest in the coming months but will also focus on fall as the children have been showing an interest in the changing seasons. We started to see that some of the leaves on the trees are starting to change colour and this has piqued their interest about fall.

As we enter a new ‘school year’ we welcome all the new preschoolers, and their families, to our classroom. We look forward to getting to know all of you. We are going to have a blast learning and exploring the amazing ideas that the staff have planned.

Just a reminder we are closed on Monday September 5th for Labour Day and Monday October 10th for Thanksgiving.

Preschool Room #2 News

Now that summer has quickly come and gone, we are so excited to begin a new school year! With that being said, some of the children will be leaving Story Book ELC to begin their journey at “big school!” Thank you, parents and families, for allowing us to be a part of your child’s early years. It has been a pleasure to watch them grow and learn!

As we put the summer months behind us and get back to our normal routines, we reminisce on the exciting summer we have shared together! Throughout August our interests have led us to explore ocean, forest, and zoo animals! The children participated in many small group activities that enhanced the skills they will use in kindergarten. At large group times the children were able to identify the animal and vocalize the sound of the first letter the animal’s name began with. We incorporated math concepts by measuring ocean animals and counting shells and stones.

We encouraged early science exploration by exploring ramps indoors and outdoors! The children had the opportunity to explore a ‘sink or float’ activity in our water bin! We also created an interest table where the children could sort, match, and investigate animal footprint stones!

As we enter September, we would like to welcome the families and children that will be moving up into Preschool #2! We look forward to spending this school year with your child and to watch them flourish!

Reminder: Story Book ELC will be closed Monday September 5th for Labour Day. We hope you enjoy your holiday!
