Preschool Room #1

Spring seems to have finally arrived. We have been seeing lots of birds, bugs, and worms because of the rain. We have a bird sitting on her nest under our gazebo. It will be fun to watch the activity in the nest. We will be anxiously waiting for the babies to hatch. It will be interesting to watch the parents feed their babies.

This month we will celebrate all our wonderful Mothers, Grandmothers, and Aunts. Happy Mother’s Day and enjoy your special day.

As the weather warms up, we will start to apply sunscreen. Story Book will provide the sunscreen; we have an unscented paba- free, hypo-allergenic SPF 30 broad spectrum UVA/UVB sunscreen. If you do not want us to use our sunblock on your child, please let staff know, and in this case we ask that you apply your own sunscreen at home before your child arrives.

Just a reminder that Story Book will be closed for Victoria Day, Monday May 23rd.  We hope to have nice weather to enjoy the day.

Preschool Room #2

April was full of many fun activities and discoveries. The children’s main interests included spring, bugs, and of course Easter!

The children celebrated Easter by creating their own Easter crafts. The children painted Easter eggs, matched letters, and numbers in the Easter sensory bins, and went on egg hunts. The children loved the egg hunts so much we created different variations where they could find numbers, shapes, and letters in the eggs.

The children are beginning to observe signs of spring. They are very excited to get outside and explore! We have been watching the robins outside our classroom window and the children have many questions and interesting observations. We also have found a robin’s nest in our play yard! We look forward to expanding on that interest as we enter May. We also have noticed many bugs outside such as ladybugs, ants, and potato bugs. We have created a bug interest centre. In this centre the children can explore books, puzzles, and photos of bugs. They can explore bug X-rays on the light table as well as measure, sort, and manipulate toy bugs in different ways using various materials.

As we enter May we will expand on the children’s interests and observations together as the Spring season blooms! We look forward to embracing the warm weather and exploring outside. We will continue to focus on getting the children ready for kindergarten by incorporating essential skills into their emerging interests!

With warmer weather coming, please note:

Sunscreen will be provided. The brand we use is Croc Bloc. It is paba-free, hypo-allergenic broad spectrum UVA/UVB sunscreen with SPF 30. Sunscreen is applied to all exposed skin. If you do not want us to apply our sunscreen to your child, please let us know. In this case we ask that you apply your own sunscreen at home before your child arrives.

Reminder: We will be closed Monday, May 23rd for the Victoria Day Holiday. Enjoy your long weekend!
