Preschool Room #1
Hip hip hooray summertime is here. We ask that if you haven’t already brought in summer clothes, please bring them in soon. Also, if you haven’t informed us on summer vacations, please let us know so that we can staff accordingly.
In early June the children were showing a lot of interest in colours, insects and building. We talked a lot about these topics at circle time. Later in June the children started showing interest in ice cream. You would often see them serving up ice cream to friends and teachers during free play and outside time. During the next month, we will be expanding their interest and imagination on this topic with our ice cream shop dramatic play centre.
Just a reminder that Story Book will be closed on August 4th for the Civic holiday. We wish you all a happy summer in the sun with friends and family.
Preschool Room #2
Summer is officially here, and we are having a lot of fun with outdoor summer activities. The children have been loving the buckets of water with paint brushes, going on bug hunts, sidewalk chalk, and popsicles on really hot days.
If you have not let the staff of any summer vacation that your child will be out , please do so, so we can schedule staff accordingly.
Recently, the children have been coming to school with updates on the acorn squash they brought home that we grew from seeds. Based on this excitement, we have been learning about gardens and plants. The children enjoyed discussing (and tasting) parts of plants and how they grow from seeds. We even said goodbye to our Pirate Center and replaced it with a Gardening Center. The children have been enjoying planting their vegetable garden and making flower bouquets as while using their sorting, matching and counting skills.
We have also said goodbye to our froglets. Ms. Darlene recorded them being released at Sadlers pond and showed the children. All the children, including the teachers loved watching them grow from tadpoles in our classroom. Everyday we were so excited to see how much they grew; how much they ate and how they have changed. We learned so much about our little friend’s environment , diet and life cycle.
The children have been discussing all the summer activities that they have been doing with their families. We’ve heard lots of stories about finding treasure on the beach, going for bike rides, going to the ice cream store, playing t-ball, as well as going camping. Based on all these wonderful stories, we are going to focus on “Summer Fun” during our small and large groups.
Reminder that we will be closed August 4th for the Civic Holiday.
