February is here and we got lots of snow! We were so excited to get out the snow shovels and toboggans for some winter fun. The children loved making snow angels and small snowmen. On days when we couldn’t get outside, we brought some snow inside and put it in our water table.
With all the snow, brings winter interest! We have been discussing different animals that love the snow. We discussed how the animals survive, what they eat, and how they keep warm. We have also been reading stories all about the fun activities that take place during the winter months.
The children have also been interested in building houses, beds, and other structures with the blocks in our block center. They have been working together and engaging in dramatic play with the blocks, adding them to the kitchen center, which is helping them expand their imagination and creativity.
While building and dramatic play is fun, the preschoolers have really enjoyed learning all about the letters of their names and using the white boards to trace them. During circle time their favourite games are the name games and letter recognition games. They have all learnt so much about their letters and their friends’ letters to!
February 14th is Valentine’s Day, although we won’t be here for that day, we would love to celebrate it early with our preschool friends on Friday February 13th. Help us celebrate and fill our room with love by wearing red or pink!
Story Book will be closed Monday, February 16th for Family Day. We hope everyone has a fun filled day making memories with your loved ones!

February is here, we love talking about which holidays are next, so we have been patiently waiting for Valentine’s Day. In honour of the day, we will be creating lots of crafts for the ones we love. If you would like to bring in treats to celebrate, we just ask that they are nut free.
During the month of January, we spent time learning about Arctic animals, hibernation, Winter, and continued to practice letter recognition. The hibernation or “bear cave” dramatic play centre was a considerable success, the children loved pretending to sleep in the dark bear cave, as well as catching fish for their animals to eat. Some of the children noticed that many of the stuffed animals were actually puppets with openings at the bottom, which they could use to make their animals’ bellies look bigger before they went to sleep.
Our Holiday-A-Day calendar makes each day enjoyable as we discuss what special day it is. We have yet to decide which special day we will be celebrating for February so stay tuned for that!
Reminder: Story Book E.L.C. will be closed Monday, February 16th, for Family Day. Enjoy your extra day with your loved ones!
