As sad as we were to say goodbye to the school year, we certainly kicked off the summer season on a high note. Our “First day of Summer Break” glow party was a colourful success, featuring a disco ball, foam glow sticks, music, and flashing rings (to take home).

We were closed for the holiday on Tuesday , the 1st  of July, so a decision was made to celebrate a day early. Decked out in red and white, our Kindergarten crew learned all about the popular animals and sports known to Canada. We also acknowledged our country’s 158th birthday with our own rendition of the Happy Birthday song, and mini cupcakes to mark the occasion!

This month, our Kindergarten friends will learn all about fascinating insects, and their interesting features, during out “BUG OUT” week. Will we be eating with the aunts during out outdoor picnic???

We’ll dive deep into the water during our “Commotion in the Ocean” week! Our inquisitive crew love learning about the five layers of the ocean and the many creatures that inhabit them. Becoming “bioluminescent”, like the angler fish, is always a favourite activity.

During our “Week of Holidays”, our students will be encouraged to dress for the day as they see fit. Perhaps a little green on St. Patrick’s Day, pink/red for Valentines’ Day, and let their imaginations run wild on Halloween! We’re planning an Easter egg hunt, building leprechaun traps, and even hoping for a special Christmas visitor!

As the month comes to a close, we’ll celebrate a week of “Summer Fun”, complete with a couple of playground visits, a water party, a camp out (tents and all), and a Teddy Bear Picnic.

As well, we’ll celebrate “National Give Something Away Day”, by making and delivering some special art pieces to our friends at Iler Lodge, here in Essex. We’re also looking forward to a visit from our local librarian (for some reading fun), and the Essex Fire Department (for a special Water day).

There’s always something exciting happening here in the Kindergarten room! Can’t wait to tell you all about it!
