Infant 1 News
It’s the most wonderful time of the year! We are looking forward to all the fun and excitement that Christmas brings. This month we will be working hard to create Christmas themed artwork and to make our classroom look as festive and merry as possible. The babies have been enjoying playing with our interactive Christmas tree, by placing the ornaments in the holes and the star on top. We have also started to notice the Christmas decorations outside of the houses on our walks.
This past month the babies enjoyed many sensory play opportunities including water play, playing and building with play doh, and exploring bubbles and sensory bags. We look forward to continuing this interest this month with Christmas and winter sensory experiences. Maybe we will even see some snow that we can explore in the yard and in the classroom.
While the weather has been mild throughout November, the days are beginning to feel colder. Please remember that we do go outside for walks and play in the playground in the morning and afternoon. Please send weather-appropriate clothing including a snowsuit, boots, hat, and mittens.
We will once again be donating to local children’s charities on behalf of our Story Book Family. If you can, we would appreciate any new items such as toys, hats, mittens etc. and/or canned goods. There will be a box outside the office. Donations will be accepted until December 10th.
Story Book Early Learning Centre will be closed for the Christmas holiday beginning on December 24th, and we will re-open on January 2nd. We hope that everyone has a great holiday and can enjoy this time with their family.
Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!

During the month of November, the infant’s favourite toy was the ball pit. This interest inspired more ball related toys to be brought into the classroom, such as a basketball net, ramps, textured balls, and more. This helped the babies practice their gross motor skills by throwing and kicking the balls. It also helped improve their social skills by taking turns in the ball pit and enhancing their communication by using words like “help” and “more.” We also began early concepts of colours and counting. We did this by introducing colours by name according to the colour of ball they were holding and counting aloud as they added or took away balls from the ball pit.
As the weather continues to get colder and snow is approaching, we ask that you send a winter hat, coat, snow pants, mittens, and a pair of boots. We will continue to bring the little ones on walks or to play in the yard twice a day even in the winter months. The babies loved watching the first snow fall and we look forward to getting out more so they can explore its cold texture.
