Preschool 2

As we welcome the month of December, we look forward to new learning opportunities and adventures as we transition into the Winter season as well as the Christmas holidays.

This past month the children have been interested in letters and the alphabet. They sing the alphabet to themselves and love to play with the clear letters at the light table. We have been expanding on this by talking about letters during large group and by making upper- and lower-case letters for an alphabet line.

Earlier in the month, the children celebrated World Kindness Day. We read books on how to be kind and talked about how we could be kind to others. For art we made hearts with ideas on how the children could be kind to each other and those around them.

Another exciting thing that happened in our room was we got to play in the first snow of the season! The children had lots of fun sliding down the hill pulling each other on sleds and building snow castles using buckets and shovels. The children also worked on their number skills in the snow, by throwing snowballs at the wall and counting how many bricks high they were able to reach.

As we enter the month of December, we are so excited to play in the snow and celebrate the holidays! We worked together to set up our Christmas tree and look forward to creating ornaments and decorating our classroom. We are so excited to celebrate together and challenge the children with new activities and experiences. Meanwhile we are also focusing on the children’s interests and continuing to focus on scissor skills, name, and letter recognition.

We will once again be donating to local children’s charities on behalf of our Story Book Family. If you can, we would appreciate any new items such as toys, hats, mittens etc. and/or canned goods. There will be a box outside the office. Donations will be accepted until December 10th.

Just a reminder that Story Book will be closed for the holidays from Wednesday, December 24th and reopen on Friday, January 2nd.

December is here and with it comes lots of fun. We have been looking forward to discussing all things Christmas for quite some time. We hope to have our classroom Christmas tree up soon and are excited to make our own decorations to add to it.

A Christmas countdown as well as an advent calendar will be introduced on the first day of December. Hopefully, this will help to deter the question of, “is it Christmas yet”? Every day at our morning circle we will move our Christmas wreath to countdown the days and take turns opening our advent calendar boxes filled with Christmas themed squishy toys.

A classroom elf will also be joining us, and we will be voting to decide on his name. We’re sure the children will be excited to search for him every morning and see what he has gotten up to.

Stay tuned for some fun Christmas themed days popping up throughout December!
