Toddler Room #1

Summer is quickly approaching and the end of another ‘school’ year.  We ask that you inform the teachers in your classroom of any scheduled vacations you may have. This helps with summer staffing.

June is when gardens begin growing and when early crops (like strawberries) are ready.

We will be talking about the different fruits and vegetables your child is eating and which ones they like best.  We will also learn about their colours and the different textures, such as the bumpy broccoli, the smooth apple and the picky pineapple just to name a few.

We look forward to seeing what this month brings and where their interests lead us.

With warmer weather upon us, we ask that you consider leaving a hat in your child’s cubby for the summer.  We’re out twice a day and as we all know that sun can get very hot.

Happy Father’s Day to all of our dads and grandpas.

Just a reminder that we will be closed Tuesday, July 1st for Canada Day.

Toddler Room #2

Our toddlers have been loving all of the beautiful weather we have been having. We’ve especially loved watching the mommy bird in our play yard sit in her nest and watching her eggs hatch. We took pictures of the whole process, and our toddlers were so excited to see the tiny babies finally emerge from their shells.

This past month we have been talking about animals, bugs, and all things spring. We enjoyed playing in our sensory garden and worked on our fine motor skills by using shovels and rakes. We also talked about ocean animals and had so much fun playing with Oobleck (cornstarch, food colouring, and water) to rescue stuck sea animals.

We are continuously focused on developing our fine and gross motor skills in the toddler room as well as self help skills. We encourage you to practice these skills with your children at home by doing puzzles, play dough, and drawing/holding crayons or markers. Examples of ways you can practice self help skills are using a fork and spoon at meal times, learning to take on and off their shoes and hats, and cleaning up their toys.

Our toddlers have taken a new interest in dinosaurs; we plan to explore this topic throughout this month and have so many fun activities planned.

Just a reminder that we will be closed Tuesday, July 1st for Canada Day.
