Preschool Room #1
Well, summer is almost here but we are still waiting for the warmer weather. The children are still enjoying playing outside. They have been riding bikes, learning to catch and throw a ball as well as kicking soccer balls and drawing with sidewalk chalk.
During the month of May the children were very interested in bugs. We were able to find a few outside including two snails, a couple of spiders, some potato bugs, some ants in our sand box, and our friendly carpenter bee, Carlos. We have been learning the names of the bugs and their characteristics. The children love the fact that dragon flies eat mosquitoes.
With the change of the season, it is a good time to check your child’s extra clothing to make sure it is appropriate for the current weather conditions. Also to make sure your child has extra clothing, accidents happen. Story Book does have a limited amount of extra clothing to borrow if needed; however, we do ask that you return the borrowed items so they are available for others that may need them.
Please let staff know of any vacation time your family will be taking this summer, as it helps us in planning for our staffing needs.
We want to wish a Happy Father’s Day to all the wonderful dads.
Just a reminder that Story Book will be closed Tuesday, July 1st for Canada Day.
Preschool Room #2
We think it’s safe to say that the warm weather is here to stay. With that in mind, please check your child’s cubby for winter clothing that can now go home. It may also be a good idea to switch out their spare clothes as the ones they may have may no longer be weather appropriate.
Lately, the children have been collecting maple keys. They have been very interested in peeling the seeds open to see what’s inside. Some children even brought them home and planted them in their own garden. This inspired us to plant our own seeds in the class and watch them grow. We will also be learning about parts of a plant and what they need to become strong and healthy.
Also, we finally got our tadpoles! This interest started when we were discussing what we see outside in the spring and one of the children mentioned that they see tadpoles in their pond. Our discussion led us to learn about “metamorphosis” and how tadpoles turn into frogs. The children are so excited and have been watching very closely every day with their magnifying glasses to see the changes. We also learned what they eat, their habitat, and their predators. Once they change to frogs, they will be released at Sadlers pond.
Just a reminder that there is a P.D. Day on June 6th. Please let us know if this effects your child’s attendance. Also, if you are planning any summer vacations that your child will be out, please let us know so we can staff accordingly.
Just a reminder that we will be closed Tuesday, July 1st for Canada Day.
