We’ve had an amazing start to our new school year! And we are certainly busy, here in the Kindergarten room! We spent the first few weeks getting to know each other, our families, our likes, our dislikes, and the things that make us the happiest. And with so many fun personalities, our Kindergarten crew is almost guaranteed to have an incredible time together!

Towards the end of September, we celebrated the Indigenous culture and some of their traditions. We practiced using a “talking stick” during circle time, did a friendship dance to Mi’kmaw music and tried to build Inukshuks with our building materials. Our crew also wore the colour orange to remind everyone that “All Children Matter.”

The month of October brings many exciting things to the Kindergarten room! We have welcomed the first day of Fall and have been keeping track of the changes happening all around us. So far, we have noticed leaves turning yellow, orange, brown, red, and even some multi-coloured ones.

Several of our friends have been visiting the local apple orchards, which have sparked lots of conversation about the apple harvest, how apples grow, and the things that you could make with apples. We’ve learned that there is a “proper way to pick the apples” from the trees (twist, and twist some more, until it’s stem breaks loose from the branch). And we’ve learned that early Fall has the best weather conditions for apple season.

With pumpkin season comes a lot of talk about visiting pumpkin patches, corn mazes, pumpkin carving, and baking tasty treats. We’ll be learning about the life cycle of a tree, and decorating our bulletin boards with falling leaves and pumpkins of our own. And before long, it’ll be time to transform those pumpkins into . . . jack o’ lanterns! Halloween will be here before we know it, and our Kindergarten crew will be busy deciding on costumes and counting down to “Trick-or-Treat” night! We’ll be making monster stew, catching spiders in our web, reading creepy stories, and playing glow-in-the-dark games.

We will also be offering full day child care on the P.A. Day, scheduled for Friday, October 27th. Please let us know (ASAP) if your child will require care, as spaces for the day are limited. Thank you!
